PDO Threads

What are PDO Threads?

The threads we use are made from polydioxanone (PDO), which is an absorbable, flexible and durable polymer. This is a safe and versatile material used for many decades in operating theatres throughout the globe for suturing of wounds.

Our threads are monofilament or double screw and non-barbed. These are introduced using a sterile needle into the subdermal layer, i.e. immediately below the skin.

The PDO induces the production of rejuvenating collagen, which can be beneficial for a number of skin tightening indications such as neck sag, peri-oral lines and other facial wrinkles. A clear strong suit of this novel technique is lower facial rejuvenation.

What happens during thread treatment?

After receiving a topical anaesthetic, the threads are inserted using a micro-needle. The treatment is a customised procedure and your treating practitioner will work closely with you in order to achieve optimal results.

It is important to note that PDO threads are minimally invasive and do not involve any sort of incision, i.e. no stitches are required.

The time of your procedure will vary and depends on many factors, including the size of the treatment area, but typically takes between 30 and 60 minutes.

Are PDO threads the right solution for me?

PDO threads are a highly effective and safe treatment option for skin tightening and rejuvenation. The many advantages include the fact that the threads induce your body’s own collagen production, are naturally degraded by the body once this has occurred and can be combined with injectable treatments for maximal effect.

Static lines, “loose” appearing skin and hollows and depressions even beyond the face are just some of the concerns that threads can meaningfully address.
